Saturday Market

With a year-round tropical growing season, the Saturday market is packed with locally grown foods. We even live right next door to a banana grove. At the market today we purchased avocados, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, watermelon, Irish potatoes, carrots, pineapples, and matoke (a common food here in Uganda).

I am used to going grocery shopping with my Mom in the US. In some ways I liked this more. It seemed like going to a farmers' market because it was outside.

I met several kids at the market. I think their moms were selling things. Many of the boys my age want to be professional soccer players when they grow up. One said he wanted to be an engineer, another wants to work for the UN and another for an embassy.
